SESSION RECAP:

It's Goodmonth 3 now and since the party rested in Nulb, they decide to head back to the Temple. They try to scout around the walls that incircle it and see if there is another potential entrance besides the main gates. They easily spot a tower in the northeastern corner. On top of it are some small ravens and since it appears otherwise empty, they decide to try and climb on it.

They throw their ropes with hooks and as soon as they manage to hook them safely on top of the tower, they begin to ascend. Unfortunately, when they do that, the raven take flight and when they get out of the top of the tower to descend upon the party, it's revealed that they are giant ravens, at least 10 of them. They heavily damage the men causing Mukaz to lose consiousness and forcing the party to retreat back to Nulb.

There they decide to not try and explore the Temple any further before they learn what the sage has to say, especially if this gives them a chance to get their hands on some magical items before they approach the cursed area again. So, they take all their force and head back to Verbobonc.

This time however, the journey wasn't uneventful. The first day of their travel they were attacked by 2 ettins. They used their horses speed to gallop away and avoid them. However the next two days they met two different warbands, one heading southeast and one southwest. The first one was a group of gnolls and the second one a band of men. Both group had around 100 members each.

Realising in both occasions that they cannot fight against such a force they run away and head back to Verbobonc as soon as possible. There, they inform the authorities about the dangers that loom in the area. They are all informed about a gnoll attack on Hommlet. The party offers to cooperate and go back and scout to see where the group of men that was less than a day's travel away from there went. Indeed, using the rangers superior tracking skills, they easily track the 100 men's footprints and reach a hill a few days away south. They will see there two men guarding the entrance of a cave. Having completed their scouting mission they return back to the city.

The authorities, not having more than 80 men at their dispoal right now because many were guarding the watchtower that Verbobonc is building south to protect them from the dragons, they ask the party to join forces with the militia and fight the bandits for a great reward. The party accepts and they prepare for battle!

THOUGHTS AFTER THE SESSION:

This session ended up way different than anyone could plan. The party wasn't ready to commit to a full delve to the temple and they decided to head back to Verbobonc. And in their way, the random encounters changed the pace of the game.

It's one of these times where the random encounters can be used not only as obstacles but as part of the game. They could just ignore them and continue their routine but now that they scouted and found out their base, it's time for battle!

We decided to use chainmail rules for this medium scale confrontation and the players were excited! I will describe how the battle unfold but right now the campaign takes a nice turn, with many unexpected and interesting sessions coming up!

Campaign Report: OSR, Quickly (A West Marches Campaign using Whitehack 3e)

WHAT IS THIS?     In my OSRIC campaign we have a small break of two weeks and since I am up to date with the session reports of that campaign, I will say a few things about other games that I participated in. This one in particular is one that I hold dear in my heart because it was my first OSR campaign that I' ve played and the first OSR sessions that I was a part in! I joined this games discord server on 2021 and played in this game for more than a year! So, I will describe what we did and how it went! THE RULESET     As you can see from the title (and the image at the top of the post), we used Whitehack 3e for this campaign. I have already said that my ruleset of choice is OSRIC/ ADnD 1e but I am open to try other games, just like I like playing games other than DnD from time to time. What I want is to have rules that are consistent, help you understand the spirit of the game and provide you a specific goal.     Whitehack does that amazingly well!...

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day I

Wonderfull news! Me and two players from the OSRIC campaign attended the European OSR convention known as Cauldron in Germany! I will cover on this post how I experienced this truly amazing convention! Bare in mind that some details might have be mistaken because I didn't expect to write a report about it but I am so fired up by the con that I really want to share as much as I can! Also there will be major spoilers for every module I was involved in so be warned that if you want to play them in the future, skip carefully that part! Let's go then! THE TRIP     I began the journey to Germany from Athens where I live. I met Nico, my only compatriot in this adventure, at the airport on Thursday morning, the first day of the convention. I must admit that in the beggining I was a little sceptical about this whole expedition. I didn't know any of the guys involved in person besides Nico, I hadn't been in Germany before so we were really...

The fact that a powerful magic user was part of the group that they were about to face was very worrisome. So they decide to use Mia's stealthiness as well as a potion of invisibility and a potion of undetectable poison that they had from previous adventures to take him out. The plan is to have an invisible Mia approach them when they prepare the meal of the day and poison the food that is intented for the magic user. Their prisoners informed them for the time that they usually eat and also for the fact that the wizard eats alone at his tower and one of his servants brings him his food.     However, the group knew that some ...
