Session 30: A Problem With Many Faces

PCs:

Korin Clubfoot, dwarf, F5

Mia the elf, T2/MU1

Norbor the half-orc, F2

SESSION RECAP:

After a month of training, the group is ready to march towards the temple once again and collect Lorath's reward. They take many henchmen with them, a cleric among them and they reach the temple on Coldeven 17. They search a few more rooms and soon enough they find themselves fighting an evil cleric and a strong hydra statue of 5 heads. The monster was extremely strong and wiped out almost all of the henchmen. Korin, Mia and Norbor barely managed to withdraw with one more henchman and retreated back to Scant.

They inform Lorath about the strong enemies that they faced and he offers them some henchmen of his own to assist the party. So after a few weeks of healing, the party with the Scarlet Brotherhood men head back to the temple. They quickly kill the cleric and manage to retrieve the book that they were looking. However the hydra statue was proven once more an unbeatable opponent. Mia, Norbor, Korin and only one henchman managed to escape. They got the job done however and when they came back to Scant, Lorath was very happy with their success and gave them the reward that was promised, 10000 gp.

THOUGHTS AFTER THE SESSION:

The party didn't destroy the statue and couldn't loot the whole dungeon but they got the job done! This will be proven very helpful for the Scarlet Brotherhood and they will see the consequences in the future!

Also the party managed to escape the first level and now they are growing stronger. They will be ready to try even better and more ambitious things in the future!

Plus, this the time to give one of the most important tips that I will keep from running the campaign so far: use google docs! If you noticed, after the Session 12 Recap the loot descriptions is less detailed. That's because I have stopped using a google doc to keep track of it. We play via discord and owlbear and I always post in a specific channel of our server the loot that they collected. Since they take note of it immediately, I didn't need to write them down. However that meant that soon enough I didn't have any idea of what magic items they have or what was the amount of money they have collected.

A few sessions from the one that I am describing now, I created a google doc for their inventory. It's great because not only I know what they have (not that it matters, I don't try to create challenges according to their items or strengths) and most importantly THEY KNOW. They can spent time looking at their items and choosing what they can use in the adventure, allowing them to collectively organise their efforts better.

Also I created a google doc for their henchmen. Until then I was using the notes in my notebook with many of them hiding among monsters hp that I had to reduce four or five times after the group's attacks. I won't hide that many times I couldn't find the hp of a henchman they used the last 2 sessions and I rolled it once again. Now with the google doc that I have created however, I am always ready to use them and they can also see what their henchmen can do, allowing them to strategically place them in the party's marching order.

Anyway, mission accomplished for the party! But they have many more things to do in Scant, as you are about to find out...

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day I

Wonderfull news! Me and two players from the OSRIC campaign attended the European OSR convention known as Cauldron in Germany! I will cover on this post how I experienced this truly amazing convention! Bare in mind that some details might have be mistaken because I didn't expect to write a report about it but I am so fired up by the con that I really want to share as much as I can! Also there will be major spoilers for every module I was involved in so be warned that if you want to play them in the future, skip carefully that part! Let's go then! THE TRIP     I began the journey to Germany from Athens where I live. I met Nico, my only compatriot in this adventure, at the airport on Thursday morning, the first day of the convention. I must admit that in the beggining I was a little sceptical about this whole expedition. I didn't know any of the guys involved in person besides Nico, I hadn't been in Germany before so we were really...

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day II

After a crazy day of an exhausting trip, a great on-train session provided by Nico and an unbelievable Braunstein game, we took a much needed nap. However it wasn't meant to last for long because at 7:30 we had to be awake to bath, reach the dinner table at 8 and after that enlist ourselves for a game! Let's go! THE BREAKFAST     It's worth mentioning that our food was delicious and it was all created by the volunteers and the families of the Nexus club that hosts the event! They worked endlessly to make sure everything was provided and the result was unbelievable! I wish I could express how grateful me and everyone else is for this effort! A lot of cheese, coffee, sausage and juice found its way to our bellies and we were ready to begin our adventures!!!     Once again be warned that the rest of the report contains spoilers for every module that I took part in, so if you want to avoid them, skip the specific section. Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Days III+IV

The first two days of cauldron had exceeded any expectation that I could possibly have! Every game was great, from the crazy Braunstein game to the deadly tournament module and the slaying of dragons and mad cultists, we were all having a great gaming time! Personally, my only concern was to get down for lunch on time in order to be able to enlist myself for the games I wanted. But that was not the case for the third day of Cauldron.       You see, the previous day we were informed that a great naval wargame would take place and we had already signed ourselves up! Just like the Braunstein game, it would take place on the gaming world of the ADDKON campaign and me, Nico and Mitch were excited to take part in this! So, we woke up, ate our breakfast and got ready to fight! NAVAL WARGAME BATTLE The table is set for battle     DM Ghoul have made the ambitious decision to run a great naval wargame on Saturday with 7 different factions forming up two...
