Session 28: The Captain's Wrath

PCs:

Korin Clubfoot, dwarf, F4

Mia the elf, T1/MU1

Norbor the half-orc, F1

Corax the elf, A1

SESSION RECAP:

The battle is over and the captain soon realises that someone stole his stash. Thinking that the pirates who ran away perhaps found a way in the chaos of battle to do it, push me to send men after them. Indeed, a group of men follows their trail and they manage to catch up to them. They kill some and bring a few of them alive to be interrogated.

After the interrogations, the captain realises that they haven't steal his valuables. He orders to search everyone's tent and they find the items in Corax's tent. He and 3 other assasins that were sharing the tent with him were arrested. Corax in a private talk with the captain reveals that he did it and offers to stay at his service as an assasin as payment. The captain refuses, however he reaasures him and the other 3 assasins that since they fought for the city of Dyvers they won't be executed.

Despite the really bad weather, they manage to return to Dyvers. Corax and the 3 assasins spent a few days in jail, before they are pardoned for their services. However they won't get the 500 gp reward that they offered to the rest of the group. The rest of the party gets the 500 gp as promised.

Corax began his training to become an even better assasin. During that time, the party studied the rest of the loot that they got from the pirates. Among it was a pirate treasure map that pointed to Osman Islands. They decided to travel there and search for the treasure.

On Needfest 5 of the new year, 577 CY, the party begins its journey on horses towards Hardby, where they could possibly find a ship to get them to their destination. During their journey they encountered a huge humanoid that approached them, but they galloped away as fast as they could and avoided it. Also, during the night, another party approached them coming out of the Gnarley Forest. Some of them were injured and told them that they killed a gang of werewolves. The party offered them food and allowed them to rest among them.

On Fireseek 7, they reached Hardby. Once they settled in an inn, they found a sailor who informed them that his ship was leaving in two days towards Scant and they decided to join it.

SESSION RECAP:

That was another session where I had to make a tough choice. Should I punish hard the PC who was caught stealing or should I let him got away. My decision in my head seems fair, I didn't give him his reward and I also had him in prison for a few days, before he was pardoned. After all he was part of the group that found the pirate's lair and fought against them, this must count for something.

There was also another part that was tricky. When the other party appeared from the woods, Corax was thinking about attacking them and steal their loot. While some thought that it was against their alignment, he argued that they should, since their goal is gold and xp. Both opinions make sense and made wonder once again if I should push alignment more strictly. Using Gygax' rules from the DMG, keeping track of how close the players are to their character's alignment surely produces a different game and I would like to try it like that. For now I am ok with letting the players act as they want and have them face the consequences of their actions, positives or negatives.

Now another part of the campaign begins, since the party set sails for Scant, where they will spent a fair amount of time, doing important expiditions. Perhaps more important than they understand...

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day I

Wonderfull news! Me and two players from the OSRIC campaign attended the European OSR convention known as Cauldron in Germany! I will cover on this post how I experienced this truly amazing convention! Bare in mind that some details might have be mistaken because I didn't expect to write a report about it but I am so fired up by the con that I really want to share as much as I can! Also there will be major spoilers for every module I was involved in so be warned that if you want to play them in the future, skip carefully that part! Let's go then! THE TRIP     I began the journey to Germany from Athens where I live. I met Nico, my only compatriot in this adventure, at the airport on Thursday morning, the first day of the convention. I must admit that in the beggining I was a little sceptical about this whole expedition. I didn't know any of the guys involved in person besides Nico, I hadn't been in Germany before so we were really...

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day II

After a crazy day of an exhausting trip, a great on-train session provided by Nico and an unbelievable Braunstein game, we took a much needed nap. However it wasn't meant to last for long because at 7:30 we had to be awake to bath, reach the dinner table at 8 and after that enlist ourselves for a game! Let's go! THE BREAKFAST     It's worth mentioning that our food was delicious and it was all created by the volunteers and the families of the Nexus club that hosts the event! They worked endlessly to make sure everything was provided and the result was unbelievable! I wish I could express how grateful me and everyone else is for this effort! A lot of cheese, coffee, sausage and juice found its way to our bellies and we were ready to begin our adventures!!!     Once again be warned that the rest of the report contains spoilers for every module that I took part in, so if you want to avoid them, skip the specific section. Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Days III+IV

The first two days of cauldron had exceeded any expectation that I could possibly have! Every game was great, from the crazy Braunstein game to the deadly tournament module and the slaying of dragons and mad cultists, we were all having a great gaming time! Personally, my only concern was to get down for lunch on time in order to be able to enlist myself for the games I wanted. But that was not the case for the third day of Cauldron.       You see, the previous day we were informed that a great naval wargame would take place and we had already signed ourselves up! Just like the Braunstein game, it would take place on the gaming world of the ADDKON campaign and me, Nico and Mitch were excited to take part in this! So, we woke up, ate our breakfast and got ready to fight! NAVAL WARGAME BATTLE The table is set for battle     DM Ghoul have made the ambitious decision to run a great naval wargame on Saturday with 7 different factions forming up two...
