Session 20: Searching For A High Priest

PCs:

Causticas the elf, F2/MU2
Korin Clubfoot, dwarf, F3

SESSION REPORT:
The party, having saved Orlane from the threat of the cult, prepares its quest to find a high level cleric to restore Korin's lost level of experience. The mayor of Orlane informs them that in Veluna, its leader, Canon Hazen is one of the strongest clerics he has ever heard of and also the highest cleric of Rao. He writes a letter of recommendation, that describes the party's heroic deeds, hoping it will persuade Canon Hazen to assist them, although he knows it won't be easy.
Not wanting to lose precious time, the party, taking along the only hireling that survived the fights with the cult and the thief they have employed, head to the town of Thornward after 3 days of travel. There they meet a cleric of Rao, who informs that he is heading towards Veluna himself. He explains that in two days time, at Wealsun 18 there is a Luna eclipse and eclipses are always special days for the followers of Rao, since the moons are his servants guarding the realm of men and as a results when one of them is absent, men must be vigilant. Veluna is one of the few cities that Rao is the dominant faith and as such in these special occasions clerics of Rao gather there to pray. The party travels alongside him towards Veluna.
They will reach after two days. Unfortunately, a few hours before they reach the city, they will be attacked by 3 giant snakes that had a head both in the front and in the back. Causticas and Korin soon enough realised they had no hope of surviving against such monstrosities and galloped away, while the rest of the party perished at the fangs of these strange serpents.
On the night of Wealsun 18th and with the moon of Luna absent, Causticas and Korin arrive at the city of Veluna. They choose to spent the night at an inn. However, a woman's scream will break their rest. They try to get out and see what's happening back their door is locked. They break the door of them room and head out of the hotel to go to a nearby house where the scream came from. There, they will find two monstrous figures looting whatever they can grab. Korin and Causticas force them to retreat. After that, they assist a caravan that was resting close to the main square of the city and there they will be joined by a paladin of Rao named Jean-Pierre who is trying to help against the sudden attacks by monstrous like figures. However, while they were fighting the monsters that were attacking the caravan, Korin and Causticas heard them speak about an armory in Common.Jean-Pierre informs them about an old armory in the city and alongside two sentries, the group rushes there.
In the armory, they will be attacked by an archer on top of its tower that they managed to kill and 3 guard dogs that they poisoned. Then they entered the armory to see what was going on there.

THOUGHTS AFTER THE SESSION:

That's one more session where it was proven that the most dangerous part of Greyhawk is its wilderness. Everything seems to be ok and then BOOM, 3 amphisbaena appear. Needless to see, that was the first time that I ever so that word and I am positive that I pronounce it wrong! But, that's what the random encounters table got us, we lived with that.

Basically only the PCs did. They were really lucky because I rolled the monsters targets randomly and they attacked everyone beside the PCs and the cleric. The morale check of the cleric was really good (although he might be alive if it didn't) and he attacked them trying to save the party. The PCs however, once they realised that Causticas' sleep spell had no effect on them, left and never looked back.

Of course that's no biggie since he would soon rest and regain it, right? NOPE! Things came up that way that he wouldn't complete his rest, nor he would have the time to prepare new spells. I have found a Dungeon Magazine adventure that is centered on Veluna City and works only when we have an eclipse and guess what! It actually does!

I didn't change the calendary or anything, it just happened. From what you can understand it's a small "plot-like" city adventure but it was really fun and it gave the PCs a nice quest to get in the good side of Canon Hazen. It was a nice small break from fighting demoning cults and we had a blast. However, this adventure had a bigger difficulty level than usual because it was made for 2e.

Let's see how that all went out in the next session report!

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day I

Wonderfull news! Me and two players from the OSRIC campaign attended the European OSR convention known as Cauldron in Germany! I will cover on this post how I experienced this truly amazing convention! Bare in mind that some details might have be mistaken because I didn't expect to write a report about it but I am so fired up by the con that I really want to share as much as I can! Also there will be major spoilers for every module I was involved in so be warned that if you want to play them in the future, skip carefully that part! Let's go then! THE TRIP     I began the journey to Germany from Athens where I live. I met Nico, my only compatriot in this adventure, at the airport on Thursday morning, the first day of the convention. I must admit that in the beggining I was a little sceptical about this whole expedition. I didn't know any of the guys involved in person besides Nico, I hadn't been in Germany before so we were really...

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day II

After a crazy day of an exhausting trip, a great on-train session provided by Nico and an unbelievable Braunstein game, we took a much needed nap. However it wasn't meant to last for long because at 7:30 we had to be awake to bath, reach the dinner table at 8 and after that enlist ourselves for a game! Let's go! THE BREAKFAST     It's worth mentioning that our food was delicious and it was all created by the volunteers and the families of the Nexus club that hosts the event! They worked endlessly to make sure everything was provided and the result was unbelievable! I wish I could express how grateful me and everyone else is for this effort! A lot of cheese, coffee, sausage and juice found its way to our bellies and we were ready to begin our adventures!!!     Once again be warned that the rest of the report contains spoilers for every module that I took part in, so if you want to avoid them, skip the specific section. Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Days III+IV

The first two days of cauldron had exceeded any expectation that I could possibly have! Every game was great, from the crazy Braunstein game to the deadly tournament module and the slaying of dragons and mad cultists, we were all having a great gaming time! Personally, my only concern was to get down for lunch on time in order to be able to enlist myself for the games I wanted. But that was not the case for the third day of Cauldron.       You see, the previous day we were informed that a great naval wargame would take place and we had already signed ourselves up! Just like the Braunstein game, it would take place on the gaming world of the ADDKON campaign and me, Nico and Mitch were excited to take part in this! So, we woke up, ate our breakfast and got ready to fight! NAVAL WARGAME BATTLE The table is set for battle     DM Ghoul have made the ambitious decision to run a great naval wargame on Saturday with 7 different factions forming up two...
