Session 8: The Final Showdown

PCs:

Causticas the elf, F1/MU1
Korin Clubfoot, dwarf, F1
Dodecatheon, MU1

SESSION REPORT:

Burne, shocked by the reappearance of the cultists, talks to the village militia leader Jonathan and the respected druid Jaroo and asks them to unite their forces against the common foe. He was afraid that if the enemy learned of their intentions through his spies he would flee, so he asked them not to say a word, besides a few trustworthy adventurers (if there such adventurers) and take the matter in their own hands. They agree to attack the Moathouse and they take with them Causticas who proved his worth in the previous expedition, a dwarf named Korin Clubfoot and a magic-user known as Dodecatheon, both of them newcomers to the village. They will also be accompanied by 3 of Burne's soldiers.
At Coldeven 1st then, they head under as much secrecy as they can to the Moathouse. Inside they will fight a few zombies and eventually they will meet the evil cleric and his goons. A tough battle will occur with he cleric managing to paralyse with his magic Burne but eventually the party managed to kill his henchmen and neutralise him. Sadly, Jonathan met his end against him during the fight.
But he didn't die in vain! The party returns back to Hommlet triumphant, having clean the dungeon and stop the evil cleric in his tracks!
    Hommlet is once again safe!!!

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SESSION:

It is really strange to write down all that loot. This session happened many months ago and I had forgot how much money they made in that session! Basically they took the vast majority of the dungeon's loot in their characters' first session (well, this was Causticas' second session but you get the point)!
It was a really fun battle. I has Lorath use Hold Person and I made him pick people in random and one of them happened to be Burne! I roll everything in front of the players and I remember them saying that they are about to die again once that happened. But they made it!
Once they defeated the goons and lost a few of their soldiers, they tried to wrestle him to the ground. Clever choice. Unfortunately I hadn't researched the wrestling rules of the DMG so I used the OSRIC variant, where you just make a normal attack that subdues him instead of hurt him. This was a little unfair I think because it made it very difficult for them to capture him, even though they were 4 v1 and I had two of them attack with a + 4 because they flanked him.
Causticas' player mentioned in another session that wrestling an opponent should not work like a regular attack back should take into account everything the DMG does, dexterity, weight etc. He is right in this. Wrestling should be an alternative choice for someone who cannot beat you in a fair fight but is flexible enough to outmaneuver you and submit you onto the ground. If I have the same disadvantages that a regular attack has, then there is not point on even trying. I studied the DMG rules and use these from now on.
Also Samwich's player created a new character because he got bored of the old one. So Samwich will stay in Hommlet forever and Dodecatheon will accompany the group from now on!
All in all, T1 was a great module. It has nice dungeon, a strong BBEG and a straightforward goal. Also it provides the PCs with many strong henchmen that are willing to help. One of the strange things is the sudden increase of difficulty inside the dungeon. You can spend two or three session killing rats, the ogre or the bugbears and feel that it has no challenge to offer, and then suddenly BOOM! Lorath appears and run for your lives!
The players loved it and while the whole thing started as an attempt to try out modules, we decided to continue the campaign from there and see what else is there at Greyhawk for them to explore. With all that loot, they gained a level and are extremely close to get another one, so new adventures await!
    LET'S GO!!!

Campaign Report: OSR, Quickly (A West Marches Campaign using Whitehack 3e)

WHAT IS THIS?     In my OSRIC campaign we have a small break of two weeks and since I am up to date with the session reports of that campaign, I will say a few things about other games that I participated in. This one in particular is one that I hold dear in my heart because it was my first OSR campaign that I' ve played and the first OSR sessions that I was a part in! I joined this games discord server on 2021 and played in this game for more than a year! So, I will describe what we did and how it went! THE RULESET     As you can see from the title (and the image at the top of the post), we used Whitehack 3e for this campaign. I have already said that my ruleset of choice is OSRIC/ ADnD 1e but I am open to try other games, just like I like playing games other than DnD from time to time. What I want is to have rules that are consistent, help you understand the spirit of the game and provide you a specific goal.     Whitehack does that amazingly well!...

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day I

Wonderfull news! Me and two players from the OSRIC campaign attended the European OSR convention known as Cauldron in Germany! I will cover on this post how I experienced this truly amazing convention! Bare in mind that some details might have be mistaken because I didn't expect to write a report about it but I am so fired up by the con that I really want to share as much as I can! Also there will be major spoilers for every module I was involved in so be warned that if you want to play them in the future, skip carefully that part! Let's go then! THE TRIP     I began the journey to Germany from Athens where I live. I met Nico, my only compatriot in this adventure, at the airport on Thursday morning, the first day of the convention. I must admit that in the beggining I was a little sceptical about this whole expedition. I didn't know any of the guys involved in person besides Nico, I hadn't been in Germany before so we were really...

The fact that a powerful magic user was part of the group that they were about to face was very worrisome. So they decide to use Mia's stealthiness as well as a potion of invisibility and a potion of undetectable poison that they had from previous adventures to take him out. The plan is to have an invisible Mia approach them when they prepare the meal of the day and poison the food that is intented for the magic user. Their prisoners informed them for the time that they usually eat and also for the fact that the wizard eats alone at his tower and one of his servants brings him his food.     However, the group knew that some ...
