Session 11: No More Mr. Nice Guy

PCs:

Causticas the elf, F2/MU2
Korin Clubfoot, dwarf, F3

SESSION REPORT:

During the night, Korin and Causticas kept watch to make sure that noone comes to save their prisoners. They spotted movement and they surprised and overpowered their enemies. They were locals watching the mayor's house under the cover of the night.
When the sun rose, the party started interrogating them. The troglodytes and almost every cultist refused to give any information. However, one of the cultists asked the party to swear that they will let him leave alive if he cooperates. They do and he reveales that he arrived at Orlane looking for an adventure, however the first night he tried sleeping at the Golden Grain Inn, he was attacked in his room and was lead to a dungeon in a location unknows. There, him and some other prisoners were led in front of a serpent with the face of a woman. Most of them were charmed by it and were willing to follow its lead. Those who didn't were executed. So, despite not being charmed he pretended he is to survive and served the cult faithfully. He also told them that the leaders are the clerics of the Temple of Merikka and that there is a dungeon under the Temple. After that the party let him go.
After that, the head priest of Merikka arrived and informed them that he knows about the cult's activity and that he is doing anything he can to stop them. He is trying to break the curse bestowed upon the villagers. He had succeded only in a few cases. The villagers that were cured by the charm revealed that they were bewitched by a serpent creature and that the leader of the cult is the village's hermit. The cultists were ordered by the serpent to sow mistrust among the good guys, making sure that everyone thinks the clerics of Merikka are cultists. The clerics, serving a good Goddess, are the main threat of the cultists and that's why the party must be careful who to trust. He also suggests that the party and the clerics combine their strength to attack the hermit tonight. The party refuses and suggests to attack together the constable who is surely a cultist, since he let the troglodyte go. However the clerics think that this is a mistake because if the hermit realises that the temple and the party works together before they catch him, he will flee and they will lose their chance to get him
After some consideration, the party decides to attack alone the constables' office this night. They manage to beat him but soon enough cultists from the Golden Grain Inn arrived to assist him. The party was victorious but one of their hirelings perished in the fight. Meanwhile, one of the two elves that help them was spying the hermit's house and no movement was seen by him during all this.
The next day, the party visited the temple of Merikka where they informed the clerics of their victory. They congratulated them and gave them free healing spells.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE SESSION:

This was one of my favourite sessions. The party got a good idea of what is going on, but they can't be sure who to trust. They must choose if they believe the clerics or the prisoner and both sides have good points. I was really curious to see how all this will develop.
Besides that, I likes the fact that they took strong action against the cultists. This will cause a reaction (perhaps it has already started) and things will get even more complicated.
    The plot thickens...

Comments

  1. Maybe I missed this info but what made the party decide to leave Hommlet and go to this village? Why didn't you push into the Temple of Elemental Evil instead?

    1. When the party completed T1 they were presented with 3 choices. One, to go check the Temple, two, to go to Orlane and find more information about the gang, because one of the bandits they arrested admitted they were recruited there and third, to go hunt some pirates. They picked to go to Orlane.

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day I

Wonderfull news! Me and two players from the OSRIC campaign attended the European OSR convention known as Cauldron in Germany! I will cover on this post how I experienced this truly amazing convention! Bare in mind that some details might have be mistaken because I didn't expect to write a report about it but I am so fired up by the con that I really want to share as much as I can! Also there will be major spoilers for every module I was involved in so be warned that if you want to play them in the future, skip carefully that part! Let's go then! THE TRIP     I began the journey to Germany from Athens where I live. I met Nico, my only compatriot in this adventure, at the airport on Thursday morning, the first day of the convention. I must admit that in the beggining I was a little sceptical about this whole expedition. I didn't know any of the guys involved in person besides Nico, I hadn't been in Germany before so we were really...

Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Day II

After a crazy day of an exhausting trip, a great on-train session provided by Nico and an unbelievable Braunstein game, we took a much needed nap. However it wasn't meant to last for long because at 7:30 we had to be awake to bath, reach the dinner table at 8 and after that enlist ourselves for a game! Let's go! THE BREAKFAST     It's worth mentioning that our food was delicious and it was all created by the volunteers and the families of the Nexus club that hosts the event! They worked endlessly to make sure everything was provided and the result was unbelievable! I wish I could express how grateful me and everyone else is for this effort! A lot of cheese, coffee, sausage and juice found its way to our bellies and we were ready to begin our adventures!!!     Once again be warned that the rest of the report contains spoilers for every module that I took part in, so if you want to avoid them, skip the specific section. Cauldron OSR Eurocon 2024 Days III+IV

The first two days of cauldron had exceeded any expectation that I could possibly have! Every game was great, from the crazy Braunstein game to the deadly tournament module and the slaying of dragons and mad cultists, we were all having a great gaming time! Personally, my only concern was to get down for lunch on time in order to be able to enlist myself for the games I wanted. But that was not the case for the third day of Cauldron.       You see, the previous day we were informed that a great naval wargame would take place and we had already signed ourselves up! Just like the Braunstein game, it would take place on the gaming world of the ADDKON campaign and me, Nico and Mitch were excited to take part in this! So, we woke up, ate our breakfast and got ready to fight! NAVAL WARGAME BATTLE The table is set for battle     DM Ghoul have made the ambitious decision to run a great naval wargame on Saturday with 7 different factions forming up two...
